A standard solid sheet has over 200 times the impact strength of glass at roughly half the weight, which is why it gets called virtually unbreakable. For genuine bulletproof performance you need it built up in bonded layers, where each layer absorbs and redistributes the force of a round before it can punch through. Most real-world bullet-resistant glazing pairs polycarbonate with glass or extra polymer layers, so each material does part of the work.

Why Heat and Cold Don’t Bother It

Plenty of plastics go brittle in the cold or soften and warp in the heat. Polycarbonate holds its shape across a wide band, working reliably from around minus 40 up to about 120 degrees Celsius.
